How chargebacks work
A chargeback is a card dispute started through the customer's bank or card issuer after a payment has been submitted.

What starts a chargeback
A chargeback originates outside Commitery, through the customer's bank or card network. Stripe notifies Commitery through payment dispute events. Commitery records the dispute and links it to the affected commitment and any related Creator allocation.
Creator recovery
- If the disputed charge funded a Creator allocation, Commitery can mark Creator recovery as required.
- Commitery first tries to reverse funds that are still recoverable through Stripe Connect.
- If direct recovery is not possible, Commitery can offset the amount against a future Creator payout batch and issue a correction document.
If the dispute is won
If Commitery wins the card dispute and funds are restored, Commitery can restore the related Creator allocation or reverse a previous recovery entry where appropriate.
