Taxes and billing
Creator payouts are treated as Creator remuneration for referral or promotional services, so Commitery needs billing details before submitting payout batches.
These docs explain the product in plain language. The Creator Terms, Payment Terms, and other legal documents control if there is a conflict.
Why billing details are required
- Commitery needs the Creator's legal name, address, and tax treatment to generate payout documents.
- Payouts can be blocked until required billing details are complete.
- Stripe account onboarding and Commitery billing details are related, but they are not the same thing.
- Commitery uses these details to generate the Creator payout Gutschrift and any later correction document.
German Creators
- Commitery currently supports Creator billing for Creators operating as businesses in Germany.
- Required data includes legal name, German address, business confirmation, self-billing acceptance, and tax treatment.
- Small-business Creators provide tax details for that treatment. Standard VAT Creators provide a VAT ID that can be validated.
VAT treatment
- Creator payouts are business remuneration for referral or promotional services, so VAT can matter depending on the Creator's tax status.
- If the Creator is treated as a German small business, the Gutschrift notes that no VAT is charged under the small-business rule.
- If the Creator uses standard German VAT treatment, the document treats the payout amount as VAT-inclusive and breaks out VAT.
- Creators remain responsible for their own tax reporting and should get tax advice for their situation.
Examples
- A German small-business Creator receives a 50 euro payout. The Gutschrift records 50 euro remuneration and notes that no VAT is charged under the small-business treatment.
- A German standard-VAT Creator receives a 50 euro payout. The payout amount is treated as VAT-inclusive under the current product model, so the document breaks out the VAT portion from that gross amount.
- If a later chargeback removes the entitlement to that 50 euro payout, Commitery can issue a correction document and recover or offset the amount according to the Creator terms.
