How Creator attribution works
Creator attribution determines which Creator may participate in the upside of an eligible commitment.
These docs explain the product in plain language. The Creator Terms, Payment Terms, and other legal documents control if there is a conflict.
How attribution is established
- Visiting a Creator page or challenge link can prepare an attribution, but it does not finalize it by itself.
- Attribution is established when a user completes checkout for a commitment through that Creator context.
- The checkout screen shows the Creator attribution before the user creates the commitment.
- For Creator challenges, the proposed commitment generally has to be accepted without a material change for that challenge allocation to remain eligible.
For specific challenge links, see Creator links and challenges.
Account-level attribution
After checkout through a Creator context, the Creator can become the user's active account-level attribution. This matters because a later commitment created by the same user can still be attributed to that Creator even if the user starts from the normal commitment page.
- The attribution can remain active for up to 12 months under the current Creator terms.
- It is not shown as a discount code because it does not change what the user pays.
- Commitery still discloses the attribution at checkout where it can affect Creator upside.
The legal basis is set out in the Creator Terms.
When attribution changes
- A later successful checkout through another Creator can update the user's current Creator attribution for future commitments.
- Passive browsing alone does not silently replace an existing attribution.
- A user can remove active attribution in account settings. This affects future commitments, not commitments that already recorded a Creator at checkout.
- If Commitery detects an attribution error, abuse, expired link, or ineligible referral, it can correct or remove attribution according to the program rules.
How attribution can become a payout is covered in Creator payouts.
What attribution affects
- Attribution affects only the potential Creator allocation. It does not increase the user's commitment amount.
- Allocation eligibility requires a final failed commitment, a successful charge, and no withdrawal, refund, reversal, chargeback, fraud issue, or policy disqualification.
- Commitery does not create duplicate Creator upside for the same commitment.
What does not count
- Merely opening a Creator link.
- Browsing a Creator challenge and leaving before checkout.
- Creating a materially different commitment from a proposed Creator challenge.
- Self-referrals, fake accounts, expired links, inactive links, or referrals blocked by fraud or policy controls.
